WATERVILLE — A man who racked up nearly $ 4,600 in charges on a stolen credit card is under arrest after police found him Wednesday in a motel with a homeless woman and four hungry children.

The man, Chad Gilley, 38, told police he found the card on the floor of a convenience store and used it in Waterville over the weekend to buy food, clothing, lottery tickets and a hotel room, according to police Chief Joseph Massey.

Massey said he was angry that the children, ages 6 to 11, had not eaten breakfast when the family was picked up by police late morning Wednesday. To that extent, her product is way better than, say, the Kardashian sisters’ prepaid plastic, which was quickly pulled last year after public outcry over its fees.

The Approved Card has some appealing features for teens and college students. It has lower fees than many prepaid cards — as long as you use the card as Orman rightfully recommends.

The card comes with free identity theft protection and gives the cardholder free credit reports and scores for a year from TransUnion, one of the three main credit reporting organizations.

The Approved Card allows users to…………… continues on Richmond Times Dispatch

This is not playground rough-housing however.

Rather, piggybacking – or becoming an authorized user on a parents’ credit card and riding on the back of their solid credit – is a popular but somewhat controversial strategy that can help make a positive first impression with the three major credit bureaus that monitor bill-paying activity.

That jumpstart can pay dividends down the road when it comes to landing a job, taking out a mortgage for that first home, and insuring the first car.

Being an authorized user on mom or dad’s account gives junior charging privileges, and hopefully a good credit score, but no responsibility for paying the bill, and technically no obligations if problems occur.

Two caveats:

First, if the actual account owner can’t pa…………… continues on Belleville News Democrat
