Google Wallet Suspends Prepaid Credit Card Functions
News from PCWorld:

Google has suspended prepaid capabilities on credit cards linked to its mobile wallet after a security flaw was exposed.

Saturday’s move comes following the airing on the Internet of a flaw in the wallet’s design that could allow an unauthorized user of a phone to tap into an existing balance on a card by reconfiguring the wallet’s settings.

“We took this step as a precaution until we issue a permanent fix soon,” Vice President for Google Wallet and Payments Osama Bedler wrote in a company blog.

The Approved Card has some appealing features for teens and college students. It has lower fees than many prepaid cards — as long as you use the card as Orman rightfully recommends.

The card comes with free identity theft protection and gives the cardholder free credit reports and scores for a year from TransUnion, one of the three main credit reporting organizations.

The Approved Card allows users to…………… continues on Richmond Times Dispatch

Some cards charge a monthly fee that will quickly eat away at your balance. There may also be a fee to withdraw cash at an ATM, a fee for not using the card, a fee to activate the card and more. The Visa RushCard, for example, has a one-time card fee ranging from $ 3.95 to $ 14.95, a monthly fee of $ 9.95 (if you sign up for the card’s monthly plan rather than its pay-as-you-go plan) and a fee of $ 1.00 to make a purchase using your PIN number. Those are only three of the possible fees users could incur with just this card.
